Our blog is in the process of being restored. Should be back tomorrow ;-)
Helga, that would be great! thanks!
Who would have thought in 1969 that we all would be connecting on a website and sharing what was a truly remarkable time in our lives.
This also brings a bittersweet reality that life was short for some of us.
The rememberance page honors those of us that left us way too early. Donna Hampton and Dennis Verdugo were friends and I knew the others remembered.
I must write something about Dennis. As I wrote Patty I believe the statutes of limitations has run out on some of our escapades.
I knew Dennis starting at CPJHS where we would go to the laundramat and try to tumble each other in the industrial clothes dryers.
Over the flollowing years we surfed, worked on our cars, worked together and partied quite a bit. He was always a friend who had your back and was there for you when you needed him. Dennis had that heart of gold with just enough larceny in it to make life interesting.
One of my favorite times was the summer of 69, we worked at the Big Apple gas station with Gene Crumley, Bobby Parker and Jack Wood. We worked a swing shift and would leave after work, drive to a cul de sac just North of the Scripps pier in La Jolla. We would hike down the canyon with our surfboards and sleeping bags, sleep-then the next morning surf the beach breaks all the way to Blacks Beach. Then we would head back to the apartment and shower for work. Truly a great summer.
Perhaps the best way to define Dennis to me is this story. The same summer of 69, he, I think Gene and I (guys if I left someone out-am I bad) went to K-42 and Ensanada in Dennis' fat fender Ford F-150. When we got to Ensenada it was lunch time. One of the street kids was selling Chiclets. Dennis bought the whole box in exchange for the kid watching the truck, our boards and gear. He then gave the kid the box of Chiclets back and bought him lunch.
The story doesn't stop there we were tooling around Ensenada and met three women from back East who needed to get to the San Diego airport that day. Unknown to me Dennis said no problem, I was pissed because there was more waves to catch. Ultimately Dennis out argued me and they arrived at the airport in time to catch their plane.
Though we got into trouble from time to time, sometimes we stopped to do the right thing or Dennis showed me the right way.
Miss you Bud.
Mrs. B. the drama teacher was one of my favs ~ She was a confidence builder.
Mrs. Gagnon was also one of my favorites.
You look just the same...everyone looks so great! Dana, do you remember Mrs. Young's class? or was it Miss McClintock's class? It was a mixed grade class and you were a grade behind us, but you skipped a grade and caught up. So...you are younger than most of us! Who'd have thought that would be a good thing when we were in elementary school? I'm so looking forward to seeing you again!
I remember Dominic and Tony Hernandez. The last time I saw them we were in the hotel parking lot at the 10th reunion sharing something Tony said a teacher shouldn't be doing. Good guys. Dominic was a musician I believe.
Have to admit, Ernie was not my favorite. He had to sign my grades off when I ran tried out for something and I made the comment about how I really "needed" at least a C to try out. He looked at me and said, (and I quote) "people in hell need cold water".... Maybe he just didn't like those social activities!
Karen said he is not teaching anymore -he's a winemaker up north. He used those scientific formulas to better the world!
Steve.......Actually in my after Pic I'm sipping a shot of fone Tequila Penca Azul Reposado to be exact Runs about a hundred bucs a fifth so I only drink it on special That's my new bar I'm toasting you from

Hey guys, it was the the Bush Bavarian Competition Team, those were some great parties.
Steve and Joe:
You're right, it was the Cannery ... and surfing IB reminds of many late afternoons, at the break in IB farthest south of the pier, where a small river met the ocean. Did that place have a name? I can't remember ... but then, since third grade, after being hit with the bat, my memory has not been so good!
Pat, say hello to the Monkey's for me!
Denise, Karen, Mari Rachow and I saw Paul Revere in Cost Plus and Mari started singing one of his songs to him. We were about 18 ~ too funny.
If you get a chance, Steve Miller still puts on an awesome concert.
Tony....I Live in Sacramento. The outfit that sets up these sights must be an East Coast based operation thus the East Coast time stamp when you make an entry.
Wasn't the purple cow on top of a dairy or conveniance store on something Maybe like 3rd and Main St?
I loved this. What a walk down memory lane. We could write our own for Chula Vista! Remember walking all the way down to the Chula vista shopping center? It was an adventure! Remember the "hill"? It was out the back gate of CP Junior High , across the playing fields and out the east gate? Do you remember running all the way home, Linda?
I finally saw the rest of the reunion photos! Whoa, what a party! What a great group, I only wish there was video and sound attached so we could hear the crooners:)
I really hope we can make it down there soon, will let you know. It's so cool to see pics of so many old friends and how great they look. I wanna be 17 again! Well, maybe 25, or 40, or 45!
Love you, Dana
